Outreach programs:

Cooper RiverQuest Adventure Day Camp
This pilot program was developed by the Museum in partnership with the Southern NJ Council
of the Boy Scouts of America/Sea Scouts and the Cooper River Yacht Club. The program is aimedat teaching Camden City boys and girls swimming and boating skills so that they can
meet the registration qualifications for the free summer boating safety course run by the Cooper River Yacht Club. This program was funded by the I BOAT NJ program.
Spring – Summer 2008

Sea Scouts: A new “Ship” will be based at the Camden Shipyard and Maritime Museum.
In cooperation with the Southern NJ Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a new Sea Scout program or “Ship” for Camden boys and girls, ages, 14-21 years of age, is under development. This is a maritime version of scouting that combines adventures on the water with sound, maritime-themed, educational programming. Sea Scout programs provide good fellowship, boating skills, and leadership development. Regular boating opportunities are available through co-operative programming with the Cooper River Yacht Club. Another co-operating maritime organization has submitted a proposal to establish a “Sea Scout Base”. A Sea Scout Base would involve providing Sea Scouts with their own sizable training vessel on the Delaware River.

Matthew Henson Statue
A statue honoring Mr. Matthew Henson, the African-American Artic
mariner and co-discoverer of the North Pole.

Small boat gallery featuring boats of West Jersey.

Church Restoration
Restoration and adaptation of the historic maritime Church of Our Savior
into a first class museum.
